Who we are:

Welcome to the Golden Lion Awards Student Film Festival, where the future of cinema comes to life! Here, we celebrate the hard work and talent of the next generation. In its 15th year, we look forward to showcasing the films meant to entertain, inform, and touch our hearts.

Based in Cincinnati, the festival is open to students in the 12 Midwest states (Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin) as well as areas within 500 miles of Cincinnati including parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The Golden Lion Awards Student Film Festival. During the presentation, we will recognize the Top 6 Films in each category.

At the close of the live event, all winning films will be available to view on our website. The top three films in each category will receive awards. Awards will be shipped to the mailing address listed on the submission form for out of town students. Students within 50 miles of Cincinnati should either pick up their award at the ceremony or have someone accept it on their behalf.

Our live premiere and awards ceremony will be held at the School for Creative and Performing Arts on Saturday, May 18th.

Our Inspiration

We know that stories change lives. We know that people stretch, grow, feel, change, inspire, and innovate because of stories. We become our best selves, witness our worst, and truly live our lives through stories. When the next generation tells stories well, they become empowered and elevate their communities in ways we can’t even begin to imagine.

The Golden Lion Awards was an idea first brought to light when Ann Brinkmann – a high school film/media teacher – was approached by one of her students, Katie Price, with the idea of hosting an annual film festival. Together, the two planned and launched the event at Ursuline Academy in April 2007 to an intimate audience with a handful of participating schools.
